Chapter 6
Recollection

Chapter Description: Lilith tries to remember what happened the night of her last final.

Lilith didn’t know what happened at all that night. What she did know was that upon waking up, her two kids were in the crib and everything seemed like it was all right. She was going to pass off the whole incident as a bad dream, except that yesterday was the day of the exams and that meant she had today to get them all graded and finalize student grades. After a light breakfast followed by checking up on her sleeping babies, she found that the tests had already been graded and every paper she had was checked and entered. She wondered at what exactly she had done that last night, but couldn’t remember a thing after that last exam that was turned in. She thought she had dreamed Elizabeth kidnapped Kevin and Sara, but they were right there in her apartment, so it must have been a dream. She still had to thank Elizabeth for all her help in looking after the two children. She proceeded to call her , but only got an answering machine. She decided that she would just spend the day resting and relaxing, it had been a pretty long and grueling quarter after all.

It had been three weeks since the new quarter began. Lilith hadn’t seen hide nor hair of Elizabeth since the last final, but while on break one day she caught a glimpse of Elizabeth passing through the hall. She really wanted to thank her for her help and see if she was going to register for her class anytime soon. As she approached her, Elizabeth bolted in another direction. Lilith was very confused. They had both gotten along so well before, but it was weird that Elizabeth was trying her hardest to avoid her. She decided that she better get ready for class instead of worrying

Class felt like it was really long today. Lilith was lecturing Sir Isaac Newton’s three laws of motion and had gotten halfway through the class when she got a severe headache. She somehow managed to finish the class, get home, and put Sara and Kevin to sleep, but after doing so she passed out on the couch, her nightmare waiting for her.

“Where are my kids Elizabeth?” Lilith asked.

“Lilith, gig’s up. You and I both know you don’t have any kids. The ones you’ve been parading around were just regressed for pissing you off. The coven’s had its eye on you for some time and I’ve been sent in to investigate. The final just now gave me the perfect opportunity to perform tests to see if your children were really ‘babies’ at all. I have confirmed that they are the students with whom you have had quarrels over the last few months. I have been sent to terminate you and erase all evidence of your witchcraft.” Elizabeth stated.

“Where are they and what did you do with them, Elizabeth?” Lilith asked. “I may have had problems with them, but they are my responsibility now and I’ll be damned before I let some bitch like you take them from me.”

“Oh, they are safe from you, but I don’t know if ‘safe’ is a good word for it. The coven wants them disposed of. They can’t be returned to normal by now and even if they could, they are witnesses to your crimes against the coven, so they must also be eliminated.” Elizabeth informed her.

Something snapped inside Lilith’s mind and her teaching version of herself was put to rest for the time being. The witch was taking over now. “Elizabeth, you must stop. You are making a mistake by following the coven’s orders.” Lilith replied.

“It’s you or the coven, Lilith, and the coven represents all witches everywhere.” Elizabeth countered, it was going to take more than a simple request to stop her from carrying out her orders. “Besides, the reports say that you haven’t been able to use your magic for the past few months, so this should be rather easy.” Elizabeth presented her ceremonial dagger used to carry out hits commissioned by the coven. These daggers were effective in nullifying a witch’s ability to focus her mind in order to cast spells.

“Elizabeth, the coven doesn’t even have witches in it. It’s a government program that mortals came up with in order to promote harmony with witches. That is what they said at the time, what ended up happening was they got us to agree to not use magic among them, altered our memories, and sealed our powers. You’re a young witch, so you wouldn’t even know any of this, but the coven is not on our side.” Lilith revealed.

“Well, you’re shit out of luck anyway. I have access to powers and you don’t, that, and once I pierce your heart this will all be over, your ‘kids’ are next.” Lilith sent a bolt of electricity at Elizabeth from the wall, which Elizabeth narrowly dodged, but stumbled onto the floor in her attempt. She stared up at Lilith in horror.

“I simply sealed off the rest of my power from the identity the government created for me. I have full access to every spell I know. Your hunt’s over, Elizabeth. The ‘coven’ hasn’t even trained you on how to use magic, much less fight with it. Now hand over my students and get out.”

“Ugh, “ Elizabeth exclaimed as she fled the scene. She couldn’t carry out her hit, but she could at least destroy the evidence of Lilith’s spell casting. As she approached the room where she had kept the kids hidden, a huge spark flew from the handle and burned her hand. She looked away from the door to see Lilith coming her way, smirking with every stride. She would have to report her failure to the coven and request backup for this next time.

Lilith opened the door that Elizabeth had just attempted to enter. She found the stroller with Kevin and Sara, both of them sleeping soundly. “Well, my little darlings,. I am sorry for putting you in harm’s way like that, but I guess the ‘coven’ is onto me now.” Sara woke up and started gibbering, to which Lilith responded, “Oh, no, no. I am not going to turn you back into an adult. It’s rather interesting that you’ve retained that much of your mind at this point in that little body of yours. I am going to raise you and your new brother to be my support in spell casting and such. Although little is known about it, mortals may use limited magic and aid in witch’s spells with proper instruction and enough experience.” Elizabeth started to cry after hearing that. She had supposed that if she had ‘learned her lesson’ that the witch hiding within Lilith’s mind would release her. The past few months had all been for nothing. “Shh shh shhh! I’ve obviously made you suffer enough. It’s really hard to find the opportunity to regress help these days, but you don’t have to suffer through this anymore.” With that, Lilith eliminated what was left of Sara’s adult mind. Sara giggled at Lilith as their eyes met and Lilith kissed Sara’s forehead. “What I did to you was extreme, maybe even cruel for your interference, but this I swear to you, my little one. This next life I give to you will be filled with magic and excitement. You will aid me in taking down the coven, but I will never let any harm come your way.” After altering the footage, she returned home, put Sara and Kevin to bed, then she thought to herself, ‘When my alter ego realizes what’s going on, I wonder what she’ll do.’ With that, the real Lilith fell asleep, her mind sealed once again.

Lilith bolted upright. She realized it was time to move again.
