Frantic Calls

Things were getting weird. What did any of that have to do with losing habits? She had an explanation for everything: he peed because of the muscle relaxers. Chris used the potty because the toilet was broken. But fixing him breakfast? The pajamas? Did those really have anything to do with her work? He couldn’t be sure.

Entering his apartment, he called out for Eden, but heard no response. He walked into his bedroom and found a note on the bed. Out shopping with Clara and the girls, see you soon! Love, Eden. Oh, right, he had completely forgotten! He needed to find out what was going on with Chris’ mom. Should he warn Chris? What could he warn him about? Everything seemed to happen for a reason, maybe he wasn’t being open minded, but—

He realized it. Something that didn’t make sense. Mrs. Heben had told him that they had no working plumbing. That was why he had to watch Chris use the potty like a baby. It was why he had to wear a pull-up instead of use the toilet. If that was true, how did she wash out the potty? How did she wash those dishes at breakfast?

The plumbing worked just fine. Her story didn’t.

He reached into his pocket and grabbed his cell phone. He had to call Chris. He had to tell him to get out of the house before she did something more to him. He called him. The phone rang. And rang. And rang. No answer. He tried again. Same thing. No use.

He had to find Eden. She would believe him. She would help him!
