One last Trip

Chapter 5
Sam figures it out

"So how long have you guys stayed here?" said Sam. It had been a few hours since Matt left.

"We just got here a few days ago." I said. "You?"

"We come here every year." said Sam. "Ever since the turn of the century."

"Huh?" I said, "I thought you were ten." If Sam had Been here at the turn of the century, he would be 12 or 13 by now.

"Yea..." he said. He said it like he was figuring something out. "That was my tenth birthday....." he said.

I was really confused.

"Nevermind." he said, seeming to forget it. "Want to go play in the lake?"

"Sure!" I said. It was getting hot.

When we got to the Lake, my baby brother Matty was there eating his sandwich. He’s only two years younger than me, but such a pain.

"Want to play?" said Matt.

"not now, we’re eating." I said.

"Now?"

"No."

"Now?"

"No."

"Noooooooooow?" Finally, I kicked some sand in his face. I think he got the picture.

Finally, after lunch, the three of us went into the water. Mom watched us from the shore.

We had only been playing for about ten minutes, when Sam suddenly jumped onto the dock.

"Wasn’t I wearing Bart Simpson?" he said, looking at his swimsuit. It had spiderman on it.

"I don’t think so." I said. I know mom wouldn’t let me watch the Simpsons. She said I had to wait until I was at least ten.

"I need to go." said Sam quickly. "Something is wrong..."

"I’ll come too." I said. I jumped onto the dock. It was a lot harder than last time. Weird.

"Wha bout me?" said Matty. "I wan play too!"

I didn’t want him tagging along again. "Nah, your just a little crybaby. Boohoo" that was mean, but I didn’t really care. It’s not my fault he’s only seven.

I followed Sam out of the water. He seemed so worried, I didn’t know what the matter was.

I looked back at Matty, crying and sulking like a little kid. Little did I know, my fate was about to be much, much worse.
