Chapter Description: The next chapter will have the transformation in it.
On her way home, Alison stopped by the market to pick up a few items that her and her mother would need after the change. As she passed by the toddler section, Alison picked up some pamper trainers just in case of an emergency, because she remembers having some problems making it to the bathroom when she was four. After gathering all the necessary material Halloween, Alison made her way back home.
The Moores home was nothing fancy, even though the money from the life insurance of Sarah’s late husband helped pay off the house. It was an old style two story Victorian that needed a fresh coat of paint from the evidence of the fading and pealing on parts of the walls. It had four bedrooms on the second floor, a living room, dinning room and a kitchen on the first floor. They have been living there since Alison was born. One of the bedrooms was converted into an office and the other was made into a storage room. The house was filled with memories that ranged from happy to sad, but Sarah seemed to dwell on the sad most of the time. Sarah has been slowly refurbishing the house, as time and money would allow, in hopes of one day selling the place after Alison goes to college. She does miss her husband, and on certain nights when Alison is out with her friends, she feels so alone. Sarah’s friends and neighbors have been trying to convince her to start dating.
Upon hearing the door creak open, Sarah called out from the kitchen, “Dinner will be ready in a few minutes Alison”. She continued stirring the sauce pan on the stove.
“Alright mom, let me put a few things away first”, Alison replied.
Alison made her up the stairs to her bedroom. There were many different boy band posters on most of the walls. On one wall she had a self that displayed many different stuffed animals from her childhood. A few clothes were crumpled on the floor and bed. She really needed to clean her room, a fact her mother keeps bringing up. She had a dresser with a mirror and a desk for doing homework. Her laptop was opened on the desk with papers scattered on top. She made her way to the closet and hides the costume she bought for her mother in a secret place only she knew. Alison placed the other packages on the floor the closet and closed the door.
At the dinner table, Sarah questioned her daughter, “So what costume did you pick out for yourself?”
Finishing her bite of food, “It’s a Red Riding Hood outfit”. Alison picked up another bite of food.
“What age are you going for this time?”
Swallowing her bite, “Age 4, I’ll be a preschooler again”, she smiled.
“You haven’t been that young before, why now?”, asked Sarah picturing her daughter as a 4 year old toddler again.
“To change things up a bit. Besides, Torie is going as Little Bo Peep and I do mean little”, Alison giggled at the last part.
Being curious, Sarah asked, “Should I ask what costume you got me?”
Alison took another bite. Chewing, she delayed her answer for about a minute. “Hmm it’s a surprise”.
“Fine, be secretive, so what age did you pick for me?”
“Mom, why all the questions?”
“I’m your mother that’s why. So are you going to give me a clue how old I’ll be”.
“Nope that’s a surprise as well.”
Sarah gave her daughter a look and then went back to her food. “Well any ways you need to clean your room”.
“Mommm,”,groaned Alison.
On way back from school the next day, Alison met up with Torie. Torie had shoulder length dark brown hair and hazel eyes. She was wearing a red sweater with blue jeans. Torie’s hair was pulled back with a red hair band. They talked about school and boys as usual, but the topic of Halloween came up as they approached their neighborhood.
“So what costume did you get?”, asked Torie.
“Red Riding Hood”, answered Alison.
“Cool, so what age?”
Alison held up four fingers, “Four”.
“Hey that’s older than I’ll be, mine is for 3 years old. I thought we would be the same age.”
Alison shrugged her shoulders, “Sorry Tor, but I could not find one for that age group.”
“Well okay then”, sighed Torie. “Well any ways, I got my dad to come as my little sheep.”
“How did you do that?”
“I gave him the old puppy dog eyes routine and he gave in”, giggled Torie.
“So how old will your dad be in the sheep costume?”, asked a curious Alison as they continued walking.
Torie grinned widely before answering, “He’ll be 2 years old in diapers with a wool covering.”,
“Awesome, I can’t wait to see him.”
Torie asked, “So what costume did you pick up for your mother? Mine is going as a cat woman”
“Sorry Tor, but I want that to be a surprise when your mother comes and picks me and my mom up tomorrow.”
“Come on, just the tiniest clue”, begged Torie.
“Okay okay, here’s a clue. She’ll be cute as an angel”, smiled Alison.
“That’s a little vague to go on”, Torie said.
Alison paused at her house, “So Torie when will you use your costume’s magic tomorrow?”
Smiling back Torie answered, “First thing in the morning, I want to get used to being 3 years old again.”
“Good idea, I think I might do that as well.”, waved Alison as Torie continued to walk down the street.
Alison was bouncing in anticipation for tomorrow. That is when the magic of the costumes will come alive and ready to use. All night she dreamed of all the fun she and Torie will have on Halloween.
