Chapter Description: Things get really furry when Makeshift is denying being a father. What is Livie Lou going to do by herself?
“Shut up! Just shut up already!” Being a mother at 18 is hard; changing the diapers of your best friend who should be 14 and is 1 is even harder. Makeshift, Midnight and Illusion are all out protecting the city so I’m stuck with Catherine.
First things first, she’s hungry, and by God I’m not going to even think of breast-feeding her. I’m 18; I shouldn’t be dealing with this. So now I’m standing here, warming a bottle on our stove. She is crying at my ankles. “Shhhh, Shhhhhh, what do you want.” I pick her up. Holding her in my arms. It’s been a year now and I don’t think I could take this anymore. It’s driving me insane. I shove the finished bottle in her mouth, finally, piece and quiet.
I sit down on the couch. Tired from a long day I catch some sleep. I felt like I slept for five minutes when a fowl smell. Shit. That’s what it is, and also I don’t want to get up. But, now being a mother, I do. Catherine is sitting on the floor, her crystal blue eyes staring ever so sweetly up at me. I want to ignore her, oh so badly. But I can’t.
“C’mere” I pick her up and walked to my room, which has been deemed a war zone. Catherine sleeps in a chest beside my bed. I set her down and rummage through my closet. Seeing the stash of diapers we had left over from when we were potty training Spike. I quickly changed her.
“Happy now?” I glared at her. She really didn’t do much but suck on the pacifier that I was so glad to stick in her mouth.
I scooped her in my arms and we went back into the OPS room. The rest of the team met us.
“Hey guys” I waked in and set Catherine down and walked to Makeshift. “You’re turn Shift-Boy,” I said to his face.
“That thing is not related to me at all” He responded. My eyes turned to slits.
“That Thing is now your daughter, and weather you like it or not you have to take a part in raising her.” I poked him.
“No she is not!” He stormed out of the room.
I raced after him. Leaving Illusion and Midnight to tend for the baby.
Makeshift locked himself in his room.
“Makeshift! Stop hiding and face the truth.”
“I’m not hiding...”
“Yes you are, if you were a man you’d some out and face me” I said and he did so, opening his automatic sliding door and staring down at me.
“I don’t care what you said, that child is not my daughter”
“Yes she is, she has to be, and she needs to grow up in a normal family”
“Livie, we’re not normal, don’t you see! Why don’t you just tell her that her father left you”
“That wouldn’t be right...”
“What? Like you’re parents didn’t leave you!”
“Makeshift.... stop it....”
“No! Why does she get to start over again! Huh?”
“...I don’t know...”
“Is Carma back? Klawz has been pushed through family and homes throughout her life, so why does she of all of us get to start her life over?”
“Well, from the looks of it you could’ve too, but you blocked it.” Makeshift was silent. I continued. “We can’t control fate, I’m not God but maybe there’s a reason she got that chance. We just need to raise her like a normal family would” I turned away from him. “She never had one....” I muttered offhandedly, he didn’t hear me. He sighed, giving in.
“Alright, I’ll agree to be a father...but I won’t do it alone” He grabbed my chin with a muscular finger.
“So you’re gonna get Midnight to help you?” I joked.
“Ha. Ha. I think he’ll make a good uncle.” He smiled. I laughed a little and he pulled me close. I closed my eyes and we locked lips. Our breath mixed as we passionately kissed.
“Uh.... sorry to interrupt your.... moment...but Klawz is eating Illusion’s hair.” Midnight interrupted.
“Right, we’ll be there” I said to him and he disappeared through the wall. Midnight barely ever does that, so we assumed it was an emergency.
“Here, I’ll take care of it so you can sleep.” Makeshift smiled.
“Thanks, but I’ll go then sleep” I responded as I flew and Makeshift turned his feet into jet boots and we burst through the door.
The situation was more dire then we thought. For indeed Catherine was eating Illusion’s long hair.
“Wow..........do normal children do this?” Makeshift asked.
“No time, let’s get her off Illusion” I said and ran to the two. “Catherine, mommy’s here, come here and let go of Aunty G’s hair.” I was able to pry her off.
“I need a shower...” Illusion sadly looked at her drooling locks.
“I’ll take her.” Makeshift grabbed Catherine. “Daddy’s here” Makeshift comforted the crying girl from me taking away her plaything. “You can sleep now Livie, we’re fine here” Makeshift smiled and I headed to my room for some long needed sleep.
