Do we have the right to play God?
Chapter Description: Do we have the right to play God?
31: “Just speak into the camera, it won’t bite” The picture clears up and a woman can be seen sitting on a soft back chair looking at someone beyond the camera, she looks to be in her early thirties, maybe late twenties.
“Couldn’t I just write it out as a journal? I’m not all that fond of cameras” The woman fidgets, clearly feeling a little insecure about being in front of a camera.
“Video journals are all the rage these days. Besides it’s for science”
“Who’s even going to see this?”
“Everyone, it’s for science, like I said. Okay, speak into the camera” The woman takes a deep breath, then begins to talk.
“My name is Andrea, I am, or I was, ninety years old until three days ago. I took part in an experiment that was designed to rejuvenate the body, making a person younger. As you can see it was a success, although how you can see that since you didn’t see me as I was before makes it hard to believe that a way to make the body younger has been found”
“That’s good, don’t worry we can easily show video of how you were before so that they can see the process in action. Please, continue” The woman takes another breath, she was clearly uncomfortable in front of the camera.
“From what I’ve been told the process will continue to make me younger, they want to see how it can affect the internal organs and bones as the body ages in reverse. I don’t feel any pain from this, I’m just worried that I might become so young that I’ll disappear”
“We’ll make sure that you won’t disappear”
“I’m too nervous, can we do this again some other day?” The camera switches off.
25: The woman is back in front of the camera, six days have passed.
“If I had any family, I wonder what they would be thinking if they saw me like this. Would I be younger than my grandchildren if I had any? Or younger than my children?” Andrea fidgets some more, rubbing her arms as if her skin is tingling.
“Will I grow up again?” The camera switches off.
18: A young woman of around 18 years old sits in front of the camera, she looks familiar.
“As you can see I’ve gotten even younger, from the tests run on me earlier I’ve reached 18 years old and I’m re-entering my puberty, however it’s in reverse. It was bad enough the first time round, what will it be like in reverse?” Andrea rubs her arms, looking nervous.
“My skin tingles a lot, I’m told it’s due to my cells running in reverse. I’m a year younger every day and it can be unsettling, before long I’ll be a child again and not long after that an infant. There is a man who’s also undergone the process, he’s also the same age as me and talking into a camera like I am” Andrea looks over to someone who can be heard quietly.
“They’re all excited by what this means, a real life fountain of youth created by science, instead of one created by some higher being as said by religion in the past. Are we playing God though by doing this? Could we be opening the Pandora’s Box and welcoming trouble that we can’t fix?” Andrea rubs her skin again, looking at the person beyond the camera.
“Can’t think of anything more to say” The camera switches off.
12: A young girl now sits in front of the camera, she looks slightly familiar and on the cusp of entering her teenage years.
“It was weird to wake up this morning and find myself this young, I feel more energetic and I can also feel the early onset of puberty. My skin keeps tingling and it’s getting harder and harder to concentrate” Andrea rubs her arms, now a habit as her body continues to become younger.
“My stomach hurts” The camera switches off as Andrea gets up from the chair.
6: A young child now sits in front of the camera, her feet hanging over the edge of the chair as she looks at the camera, her hair now all curls, any hint of the adult she was now replaced by a face that has regained it’s baby fat.
“I’ve become so young, I’ve even started wetting the bed, which is embarrassing . I try to think like a grown up but I get confused and start to cry, I want my mum” Andrea rubs her arms as she has been doing for over a month.
“I’m going to go play now” The camera switches off.
18 months: A baby girl of just over a year old now sits in front of the camera, her legs barely reach the edge of the chair, she’s dressed in just a t-shirt and a thick nappy. Her eyes twinkle with innocence and she suckles contently on her fingers, before removing them and trying to speak.
Her voice sounds very young and she has trouble making it stable enough.
“I’m back to nappies, it’s hard to concentrate, I feel so young and the grown up I was seems to be asleep much of the time. I don’t understand words very well either” Andrea looks down, pats her nappy and smiles, a smile of pure innocence.
“Me pee pee” As she says that the front of her nappy turns yellow. The camera switches off.
Report: Both test subjects have returned to infancy, as calculated when the tests were started. The reversion process has proven to be successful with no negative side effects. Talks into making this into an every day product are underway.
The two former adults are being cared for and will be given to families who will take good care of them. It is unknown how long it will take for them to age back, we have been given permission to check in on them and monitor their growth.
We may have brought a cure all for all disease and aging. But as Andrea said, are we playing God?
Tests complete.
Just testing
